Choosing Gantries for Your Operation

The purpose of a gantry is to provide efficient material handling by utilizing vertical space. The crane lifts the materials and provides the operator with full control, minimizing muscle strain while providing enhanced productivity. In some environments, gantries can also allow for better utilization of floor space. They can be used to create a safer, more efficient work environment, particularly in designated battery charging areas.

Portable Gantry Crane Changing Forklift BatteryWhile BHS gantries are designed to handle forklift batteries, they are suitable for a wide variety of applications. To choose an appropriate option for your facility, you should carefully consider capacity, beam length, clearance, and other options.

Other features to consider when choosing a gantry include:

  • Durability and Capacity

A typical battery room crane will be subjected to heavy duty usage, as lift truck battery weights sometimes exceed a ton. Proper engineering is essential to ensure a better return on your investment. BHS gantry cranes use quality components and powder-coated steel construction for dependable functionality. Capacities range from 4,000 to 6,000 pounds.

  • Powered vs. Non-Powered

While powered gantries can help to reduce operator fatigue and provide exceptional material handling capabilities, non-powered cranes are a cost-effective alternative for some types of operations. BHS offers both powered and non-powered gantries.

  • Operational Efficiency

Choose gantry cranes that can be easily implemented into your facility while improving productivity. Features like phenolic swivel casters, remote pendant controls, and poly-drive functionality can help to improve efficiency in various applications.

  • Ease of Use and Ergonomics

By lifting materials vertically, gantries can significantly reduce repetitive strain for operators. We emphasize safety and ergonomics when designing our products, and our gantries utilize advanced features to simplify the material handling process.

BHS offers several options including power and non-power drive models, beam spans from 10’ to 20’, raised beam, floor mount, and phenolic wheels. BHS Power Drive units come standard with a six button pendant control for ease of operation and are equipped with the latest variable frequency drive technology for smooth transitions. They are available in 2-ton and 3-ton models.

Non-Power Drive gantries are also available in 2-ton and 3-ton models, and a range of heights, spans, and capabilities allow for specialized applications. A cable festoon kit protects operators by securing cabling during use, and optional floor mounts allow the gantry to be secured directly to the floor.

All options are designed for long-term use with durable steel components and exceptional craftsmanship. As with all of our products, we focus on ergonomic designs that enhance productivity while reducing fatigue. Every BHS gantry is thoroughly inspected prior to shipment to ensure consistent quality. By pairing a BHS gantry with battery lifting beams and other add-on components, you can improve change-out times for your battery room and significantly reduce truck downtime.
